Ab Workout.

Todays workout:
5 mile speed workout
on the Dreadmill...Satan's sidewalk...
"Most BORING-machine-to-run-on-for-me-right-now"
Or whatever you want to call it.
Yep, it was one of "those" days on the treadmill.
But I sucked it up and did it.
Even though I wanted to hit the big stop button about 856 different times.
This is my "I am bored out my mind" face...just in case you were wondering.

I don't think it helps that I have a blank, masking-tape colored wall to stare at when I run.
Maybe I should decorate.

(Note to the Hubby...I need a built in flat screen TV in front of the treadmill. So I can catch up on all my shows. Biggest Loser, Bachelor, Modern Family. I could handle that.  Oh and can I add a full length body fan to this room makeover. I almost slipped in the puddle of sweat I left on the TM.
and maybe a drinking fountain. That's all.)

I had every intention on following up my run with some core work,
but I decided I should feed my hungry kids some breakfast instead.
My kids are so lucky.

But I did do some awesome ab exercises on Monday, so that counts for the week...right?!
Please say yes to make me feel better.

Anyways, I want to share with all of you one of my favorite ab workouts Of. All. Time.

When I was a trainer back in Idaho, some of the trainers would work out together if we had a cancellation or some downtime. So one day I made the mistake of letting our head trainer come up with our workout for the day.

The Good=I learned a killer ab workout,
The Bad=I had to roll to my side if I wanted to sit up.
(and then I intentionally added those abs to almost everyone
of my client's workouts for the next month.)  We were all feeling
the coveted ab burn for awhile. It was nice.

I think I need to make this my motto for the day.
Maybe it can be true with eating ice cream. Keep eating even
pass being uncomfortable...

I don't have an exercise name for these abs. If someone could help me out by coming up with a catchy name, I will give you a prize. Or maybe just a thumbs up...
  • 15 straight leg cross crunch (15 one side then switch sides)
  • 15 leg lowers to hip up (legs straight)
  • 1 minute plank hold on one foot (switch feet every 10 seconds)
*if you own a Bosu ball or have access to one at the gym...try this workout using that little piece of heaven. It will take it to a whole new level.

But this is a very SIMPLE ab routine...3 different ab exercises repeated 3-5x. Maybe takes at most 10 minutes. (of course you can simplify or advance each of these exercises based upon fitness level.) But the reason I love these particular exercises together is because they work all the parts of the abs: upper, lower, obliques, transverse...the whole package.  So go do them, let me know what you think!!

How do you not get bored running on a treadmill? Does anyone read while running?
I sure can't do that. I think I would fall off. I wish I could though.

Name suggestions for our awesome ab routine?!

Favorite muscle to work and feel sore? Anyone hate the feeling of sore abs?
Definitely my abs. I love feeling sore in my obliques especially.

  1. Look at that hot momma on the treadmill aka satan's sidewalk...I LOVE that name! I hate my treadmill so much that I finally gave it away. I had only used it twice in the 3.5 years I'd lived in St George. And when I go to the gym...I won't even use the treadmills there...indoor track only:))

    1. No, not your awesome treadmill!! We had many great hours spent together with that machine. But I agree. Indoor track is where it is at. That is what I would do in Omaha when I would go to the campus gym. I get so bored easily. Who would have thought running in circles on a track for 45 times (to get 1 mile) would be any better? Miss you lots!!
